• current timeframe: 2025, Copenhagen, Denmark / Paris, France
• b. September 1981 to an upper middleclass couple who already had a son, grew up safe and loved and nurtured, receiving full support in her interest for ballet and dance
• was accepted into the Opéra Ballet School at age 9 and breezed her way into the company at age 18
• eventually rose to the rank of coryphée where she, at age 27, became involved with the new transfer première danseuse, Augusta Bjerre from Denmark • they were together, discreetly, for two years until Amélie found out that Augusta had met someone else, the Danish Hollywood actor, Lauriz Johannsen; so the two ballerinas split up
• the following year, Augusta got married to Lauriz and was promoted to étoile
• meanwhile, two years later, Amélie was promoted to première danseuse, the rank she would remain until she retired at age 38, a year before Augusta's eventual retirement; she wasn't invited to her final performance
• the two ballerinas share an acquaintance in Michel Badeau, former sujét at the POB and now a popular choreographer
• Michel has been invited to stage his masterpiece "The Lady of the Camellias" with the National Ballet of Denmark, where Augusta is now Artistic Director, and asks Amélie to be one of his assistant directors, seeing as she has danced the role of Marguerite before and knows his style
• although she knows she will be seeing Augusta again, she accepts the invitation, since Michel is in dire need of help due to his usual assistant director having fallen acutely ill
• by the beginning of the new season, she and Michel have rented an apartment in Copenhagen and she arrives full of bitter feelings and dread, beginning to work with Augusta's company
• in the meantime, Augusta has separated from her husband quite recently and instead started an affair with her principal dancer, Nelly Gregersen, who is dancing Marguerite in first cast
• the two old lovers both clash and reconnect throughout the process of staging this ballet and eventually realize they have fallen in love once more, but will Augusta this time choose Amélie?
• and did Amélie ever stop loving Augusta?

When her good friend, Michel Badeau, is staging his ballet, “The Lady of the Camellias” with the National Ballet of Denmark, he asks Amélie to substitute for his usual assistant director who has fallen ill. Amélie accepts, despite the fact that she knows the NBD is under Augusta Bjerre’s leadership, her old lover with whom she ended things on bad terms 15 years prior. However, Augusta has recently separated from Lauriz Johannsen, the Danish Hollywood actor she originally left Amélie for, and has started an affair with her principal dancer, Nelly Gregersen, who – on a whim and on Augusta’s urging – has been cast as Marguerite to substitute for another principal dancer who has gotten pregnant in the meantime. During their work with staging Michel’s ballet, the choreographer whose friendship they have in common, Augusta and Amélie slowly reconnect and rekindle their affection for each other, so that by the time Amélie has sat in on the premiere of the ballet in Copenhagen, they are in love once more and Augusta must this time decide whether she is finally going to choose Amélie.
